Ikat stripes are tied into patterns representing corn to create this bold indigo blanket. The cotton threads have been naturally dyed using indigo stone and handwoven on traditional Mayan backstrap looms. Each artisan can only weave panels as wide as her hips, so this large blanket is made up of three panels that are connected using a “randa” stitch. This handmade blanket takes six days to dye, weave, and stitch together and is finished with macramé fringe and long tassels. Due to the handmade nature of this piece, variations in color, tone, and pattern may occur.

In order to make larger textiles, they connect panels with a “randa.” In Guatemala, randas aren’t just any basic stitch but rather an opportunity to embellish the textile with exquisite designs. Each randa is skillfully hand-stitched and takes one week to complete. This cotton pillow is finished with playful gray tassels at each corner. Due to the handmade nature of this piece, variations in color, tone, and pattern may occur.
