A simple beach token is transformed into a colorful place card for your summer soiree. It doubles as a favor for your dinner guests afterward.
Dip-Dyed Starfish How-To
You will need a dried starfish, fabric dye in your color of choice, two glasses of water, and paper towels.
1. To make the dye mixture, add powdered fabric dye, 1/4 teaspoon at a time, into a glass of warm water until you get your desired shade.
2. Submerge one arm at a time into the plain water. We dipped the arm as far as it would go into the cup. Allow the arm to absorb the water for 30 seconds.
3. Next, dip the same arm into the dye mixture. This time, only dip the very tip of the arm. This allows the color to wick up the arm of the starfish, creating an ombre effect. Repeat these steps on each of the remaining arms.
4. Once you have completed all of your starfish, allow them to dry on a paper towel for 15 minutes. Put one on each plate and attach a guest’s name tag.
Tip: When the starfish is dry, you can redip the arms into the dye mixture to make the tips darker.
