Make a Simple and Gorgeous Pendant Light

Make a Simple and Gorgeous Pendant Light
Filed Under:

I am crazy about pendant lights because they are uber-versatile and super easy to customize. To begin, you can use a pre-wired cord and socket set or assemble one yourself. The process is simple and the possibilities are endless. With the right materials, you can create a bespoke lighting look for any space. Keep reading for a few tips on how to make this simple and unique look your own.

Nail the Look

One of my favorite ways to use a pendant light is to loop it over a wall hook to make an instant wall sconce. I created this laid-back look by pairing a vintage-looking brass socket with a length of bright red cloth cord.

 Here’s What You’ll Need:

A turned brass flange with 1/8 IPS (FL2F)
5in. 90 degree arm brass with 1/8M IPS (AR90B)
1in. solid brass half ball with 1/8 IPS (BBH1)

Get Started

1. Tie a loose knot about 6-7 inches from the base of the socket. This will hold the light in place, prevent it from slipping off the hook and hold the cloth cord away from the blub.

2. Screw in a hook to hold up the cloth lamp. Try to find one that will hold the bulb a few inches away from the wall.

3. Hang the cloth lamp onto the hook.

Extra Credit: For the super ambitious, you can make your own hook like I did using parts from Grand Brass.
