Sunny Disposition
This lemon-yellow hue just oozes happiness, but the contrasting black hardware and accessories keep things from getting too sweet. Potted plants are a great way to perk up your stoop, but either go big or go for multiples to keep them from looking bitty.

Modern Whimsy
Airy windowpanes let light flood in and give off a sense of welcoming openness. The retro-cool green door, sculptural pots and plants, and striped mat tell visitors this home is fun and kid-friendly but still design conscious.

Tradition Reinvented
A bold yet classic color—Benjamin Moore’s Heritage Red, to be exact—in a high-gloss finish took this home’s Victorian-era door from staid to stunning. The gilt stencil detail on the glass completes the look.

Coastal Charm
A front door can be a lovely way to pay homage to the home’s locale. Here an inlaid chevron panel detail, duck’s-egg blue color, and ship-lantern sconces all lend a seaside New England feel.

Purely Ornamental
Proving that there are endless ways to stave off dull-door syndrome, this front door gets a dose of personality in the form of flanking nonfunctioning shutter panels, a large-scale lantern, and a playful pooch.

Hip Historian
Lush, gorgeous greenery can increase the curb appeal of any home, but that doesn’t mean your front door has to play second fiddle. There’s something about plum that makes it feel whimsical and daring but historical and classic at the same time.

Focused Energy
This door is definitive proof that sometimes you’re just a can of paint away from a stop-and-gawk front door. A high-impact hue can sometimes be a cause for restraint in other areas. Case in point: this door’s industrial lights and simple yet stylized house numbers.
I have a robin’s egg blue door and a dark red storm door that I know the neighbors think is too different but I really like it. So there. I LOVE robin’s egg blue, or like your Coastal Charm, above.
I’d love to see a picture. I am always matchy matchy.
I will post one tomorrow when back home! Oh I am never match matchup. Not since 1982 I think
Finally, I got lucky with the image!!!
Sorry, not a great pix but I can’t be nose to nose with the door but you get the idea, I hope.
Love it
Thank you Ginger. Nice to hear. I do too. And I love ALL the doors in the gallery above!
When I read the description I was kind of shaking my head. Seeing is BELIEVING. Your doors are beautiful and a perfect combination. Do you make house calls?
Sue, you tell me how to post images here and I’d be glad to do just that! I can’t figure it out.
I would love to see that too!
Different is good. I love it!
Did you see my door, edna?
I love them!
Oh I LOVE that purple door!
Love the black door and love the DOG!! Gotta have both!
Red is my personal favorite…. Love your door Georgeanne Ingram.
Oh thank you Linda. So nice to hear. And I love all those doors. Gooorgeous.
Do my shutters have to match the color of my front door
As far as I am concerned they don’t. But they should not ‘clash’.
No
Is the Purely Ornamental door with the dog painted navy or black? Can you tell me the brand/paint color?
Did anyone ever answer this question? It’s weird to have an article on front door color and then give the color of every door except one.
No didn’t hear anything…looking at it again, I think it is a dark navy? Our house siding is a cream/light yellow-25 years old but we can’t afford new siding-so I am stuck with that. Current shutters and door are a rusty red and def want to change them. I am thinking a dark navy or a black and if navy maybe a a little aquaish door and if black maybe a bright royal blue? We just got a new roof which is black and also thinking of grey treck/azek decking on porch. What do you think? I am not very good at this stuff! We also have a pretty conservative homeowners association and everything has to get approved.
Well this door color is definitely a combination of a blackish/blue. Your siding can be pressure washed easily to make it look sparkly clean. If you went that dark with the shutters it may be to much contrast. Let me ask you something, do you have a lot of shutters? Would you say that the roof is straight up black or is it more charcoal/greyish? How warm would you say the color of your siding is? And what colors do you always find yourself drawn to.
PLEASE DO IT BLACK, DO NOT THINK TWICE. BLACK AND VERY SHINY.
Looks black to me…..like the spots on the dog.
If you make your house TOO attractive, it invites break ins, because it stands out.
my husband and I couldn’t agree on a color…he wanted green, I wanted blue so I suggested we go in between the two. We now have a beautiful door in Tropical sea Aqua and white…
Me telling you I loved it didn’t show! I think it’s beautiful!
quite enjoyable to envision what can be done when one is able to ‘color’ outside the box. My sort of coloring
The red door….is that a mail slot way down low near the ground? If so, why so low?
My front door was purple for 20 years. Now it is Tiffany-box blue.
That red door is particularly spectacular and eye catching. The color is striking and every person who passes by would definitely pause in their steps to have a look at the door. I am renovating my house and the doors are being replaced. I have finalized Landmark Home Solutions for buying the doors and windows. We are planning to have a front door that would create and impression on the people like the red door in your blog. Thanks for sharing this!
