Like many brides-to-be, I’ve been spending my evenings trolling Pinterest, feverishly pinning ideas big and small for my upcoming all-outdoor wedding. In the search for a more casual affair rich with global touches, I stopped and audibly swooned over the recent outdoor soiree of Athena Calderone, the blogger babe behind the appropriately named Eye Swoon. —Rosie D’Argenzio, social media editor
Why I Love It: The well-conceived layout with one long (and low!) table, opposed to multiple rounds or squares around the pool; the strategic pops of color (hello, dip-dyed napkins!); the layered geometric rugs in a tonal palette; and most of all, a setting that beckons loved ones to enjoy good convo, strong drinks, stunning food, and an all-around rocking evening!
Athena’s Approach: The low table paired with the layered rugs is everything! Incorporating dhurries outside, where they’re least expected, makes this casual dining experience especially fresh. The sandy-white palette of the table linens and pillows shows a restrained approach (a practice I hope to come back to throughout this process!) that adds a heightened sophistication to the space.
My Lesson Learned: Mingling natural and casual elements with modern touches creates a poetic narrative that’s the opposite of stuffy and overblown, and THAT, most of all, is what inspires me about this space and what I hope to re-create.
