Ever wonder what some of your favorite tastemakers are gifting to their nearest and dearest this year? We asked some of our favorite boldface names from the world of design and fashion for their picks, plus we got a peek inside how they’re celebrating the holidays.

Brian Atwood

Do you have a holiday tradition?
“Lights! I love them! I string as many lights as I can and put them everywhere, from inside vases to decorating our terrace. They’re so festive.”

How do you embellish your presents?
“With gorgeous custom ribbon and possibly some fun and chic accessories. It’s all about the paper and ribbon. I also like to mix wrapping papers together when giving multiple gifts.”

What was your most memorable gift?
“I will never forget the framed poster my mother bought me of a Lamborghini that I loved so much. Cut to Christmas a few years back when my fiancé bought me the same framed picture—a second vintage one same as the original one on my wall when I was a teenager. He found out how much I loved that photo and tracked it down. The picture was one of my constant goals and inspirations. I eventually bought the real thing; my dream did come true!”

Do you have a holiday tradition?
“If we are near to one we always go to midnight Mass on Christmas Eve. When I get home I fill all the children’s and grandchildren’s stockings. Everyone has a different color combination of tissue paper wrapping the presents inside. On Christmas morning, everyone used to pile onto my bed to open stockings; now that we are so many more and don’t fit on the bed, we do it ’round a huge roaring fire. We then have a big walk if we are in the country and have Christmas lunch rather late—about 3 or 4 p.m.—then crash out!”

How do you embellish your presents?
“I always use wide proper old-fashioned satin ribbon, as that ties the best bow.”

What’s your most memorable gift?
“As a thank-you for their wedding, my youngest daughter and her husband gave me a beautiful cream leather box from Anya Hindmarch Bespoke. It had little messages and photographs from the day inside all the separate compartments. It is truly something to treasure and such a thoughtful and beautiful present, a reminder of a really happy day.”

Pierre Frey

Do you have a holiday tradition?
“Our family is scattered around the globe now. But we always make a point of being together on Christmas Eve. There is always a big tree with lots of decorations and an elaborate village scene. My father wears the same crazy Scottish plaid pants every year!”

What’s your most memorable gift?
“About 10 years ago my father surprised my two brothers and me with sets of cuff links. He found the designs among some sketches by my grandfather, drawn many years ago. My father had them custom-made for us so we would each have the same design but with different stones embellishing them. Mine have sapphires.”

What are you asking Santa for this year?
“My dream gift would be a vintage American car. Not necessarily something very expensive, but an old convertible Corvette would be amazing!”

How do you treat yourself during the holidays?
“I always take long walks no matter where I am. It could be in the city or in the country. It clears my head and inspires me.”

How do you like to embellish your presents?
“I love using very wide silk ribbon to embellish my presents. To give the wrapping added elegance, I make sure the colors are somewhat in contrast to each other.”

What’s your most memorable gift?
“My eldest daughter, Angelica, once gave me a personalized Moleskine notebook. She covered it in family photographs, and since I use Moleskines every day for sketching, it was a lovely thing to carry with me.”

Charlotte Moss

What’s your holiday treat for yourself?
“Time out! Slow down, close the door, take a deep breath, and catch up with yourself. Whether it’s coffee in bed on Saturday morning, a TV-tray supper on Thursday night, or a long walk in the woods, it’s about breaking out of your routine and getting into the slow lane.”

How do you like to embellish your presents?
“Beautiful ribbons, wide satins, velvets, and silk stripes. Sometimes I will tuck a sprig of evergreen into the bow, as it adds texture and fragrance. Every year I like to create my own gift cards to tie onto packages.”

What are you asking Santa for this year?
“My hope would be that everyone would realize the ease in giving back. Philanthropy is something everyone can embrace. You can give as little as a dollar or as much as you  want—every dollar makes a difference. This year at Christmas, whether it’s giving your time or your money, remember to give back… something.”

Miles Redd

How do you like to embellish your presents?
“To me beautiful ribbon is the best embellishment for gifts. I especially like a solid satin ribbon that will contrast nicely with the paper.”

What’s your most memorable gift?
“When I was in the third grade I got a go-cart that I had hankered after but was told was too dangerous. When I saw it I thought I had gone to heaven. I immediately jumped in and promptly drove it into a car parked in the driveway and broke my wrist. But it was well worth it.”

What are you asking Santa for this year?
“I find it better to give than to receive. That makes me happy—getting someone else what they truly want. For me, this means my three nephews.”

Mark D. Sikes

Do you have a holiday tradition?
“We order in a big meal from Joan’s on 3rd [in Los Angeles]: a complete turkey dinner. We usually have family in town and invite friends to stop by as well. Then we go and see a movie.”

How do you like to embellish your presents?
“I like to use a satin ribbon in a mossy green or china blue. I tuck a sprig, such as a piece of eucalyptus, into the bow. It adds texture and the holiday spirit to the presents.”

What’s your holiday treat for yourself?
“We always try to go somewhere relaxing right after the holidays. This year we are going to Lyford Cay in the Bahamas.”

Rebecca Taylor

Do you have a holiday tradition?
“I love making a special New Zealand dessert called pavlova. The recipe was passed down from my mother, who received it from her mother. So I would like for this to remain a family tradition.”

What’s your most memorable gift?
“I took my son home from the hospital Christmas Day, so that was, of course, the most memorable and best gift I have ever received. I am very sentimental, so there is no gift that comes close to that.”

How do you like to embellish your presents?
“I love using special ribbons, garlands, and sparkly anything to create a personalized, beautiful gift. I just started learning how to make paper flowers, so this year I will try making wrapping-paper flowers to add to my gifts.”
