Haptic Lab is a small design studio in Brooklyn known for its heirloom-quality quilted maps of cities and neighborhoods made in partnership with fair-labor partners in India, as well as handmade kites made in collaboration with Balinese artisans, DIY kits, rugs, and more. The word "haptic" refers to the sense of touch, and everything it designs is meant to inspire meaningful connections through that sense.
Why we love this

Each handmade, heirloom-quality, constellation quilt measures 60” square and is made of silkysoft cotton sateen, dyed a vivid turquoise color. The quilt backing and batting are made of natural cotton. The embroidered gold stars depict the October night sky around the 40th parallel in the Northern Hemisphere and feature constellations like the Big and Little Dipper, Gemini, Orion, Leo, and Taurus; French knots are used to render the Milky Way as a tactile field that crosses the quilt design in a sweeping diagonal. A 14-inch, letterpressed star chart accompanies each quilt to help you locate the constellations, printed by Swayspace in Brooklyn, New York.
