Why We Love This

The Man Who Died, by D. H. Lawrence. New Directions, 1947. Second printing, 1950. 103 pages. Cover design by Alvin Lustig, one of the most important modernist book cover designers of the mid-20th century. His starkly surreal style was reliant on hand-cut paper shapes and sparse photographic fragments laid out with a strong sense of the grid. Price-clipped, with edge wear and chipping especially at the spine. Pencil notations on the front free end paper, but otherwise a clean interior.
