In 1044 AD, the building of some 15,000 pagodas, temples, and palaces began on a sixteen-square mile site at Pagan, Burma. Today about 5,000 of these buildings remain, including this white pagoda, Ananda, built in 1091. This image was taken by Slim Aarons circa 1970. The work is printed on fine-art paper and comes beautifully framed in white wood molding. Slim Aarons worked mainly for society publications, taking pictures of the rich and famous. His subjects included American and European society and both minor and major stars of the day.
