Haptic Lab is a small design studio in Brooklyn known for its heirloom-quality quilted maps of cities and neighborhoods made in partnership with fair-labor partners in India, as well as handmade kites made in collaboration with Balinese artisans, DIY kits, rugs, and more. The word "haptic" refers to the sense of touch, and everything it designs is meant to inspire meaningful connections through that sense.
Why we love this

An homage to the South, the hand-stitched Gulf Coast quilt covers everything from South Padre Island in Texas to Savannah on the Atlantic Coast. The complex and ever-changing landscape of the South is pieced from gold polysilk to depict barrier islands, bayous, river deltas, and tidal flats. A unique embroidery stitch is used to indicate cypress swamps and wetlands, and the bathymetry of the Gulf itself is stitched per every 1000-foot contour. Cities embroidered on the quilt include Austin, Dallas, Houston, Galveston, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Biloxi, Mobile, Tallahassee, Tampa, Naples, Key West, Havana, Miami, Orlando, and Jacksonville.
