19th-century French Japonisme desk of fine quality attributed to Gabriel Viardot. Japanese asymmetrical design with an affixed tri-level top features a hinged-door cabinet with original red velvet lining, cubbies and a small drawer with brass pull. Carved bone village figures, carved decorative elements, lattice friezes and butterflies with mother-of-pearl inlay adorn the desk. Two drawers feature detailed bronze dragon pulls. No key, but hinged door opens. Desk height, 28.5"H. Minor wear.
