Located in Midtown East Manhattan, the Phyllis Lucas Gallery/Old Print Center has one of the largest collections of antique prints and fine art in New York City. With a long and storied history, our gallery holds the distinction as the first publisher of Salvador Dali’s lithographs in America and has been among the foremost of the city's dealers in antique works on paper since its founding in 1928.
Why we love this
Chromolithograph from the late 1800s taken from Johnson's Household Book of Nature. Based upon the writings of eminent naturalists Audubon, Wallace, Brehm, Woods, and others, the book was compiled by Hugh Craig and caused quite a sensation when it was first published in 1880. A fairy tale quality combined with anatomical and zoological accuracy characterizes the artist's view of various rodents including the Porcupine, Chinchilla, Viscacha and Coypu. Image: 6.25"L x 9"H.
