Batten Road was born in the ‘70s when a crazed book-lover returned from college to work in Soho at one of the country's (world's??) most famous Art & Architecture bookstores. To feed the addiction (and rent), she quickly picked up two other jobs so the love affair with books need not end. Eventually, the addiction grew to hunting for wonderful decorative accessories, furniture, tabletop and lighting.
Why we love this
Hauntings: Tales of the Supernatural, edited by Henry Mazzeo. Illustrated by Edward Gorey. Doubleday & Co., 1968. 316 pp. Includes dust jacket in protective cover. A collection of tales of the macabre and strange by seventeen authors including Henry James, H.G. Wells, Conan Doyle, and others of that caliber. The inimitable Edward Gorey was the perfect choice for the cover and inside illustrations. Minor wear to jacket.
