Batten Road was born in the ‘70s when a crazed book-lover returned from college to work in Soho at one of the country's (world's??) most famous Art & Architecture bookstores. To feed the addiction (and rent), she quickly picked up two other jobs so the love affair with books need not end. Eventually, the addiction grew to hunting for wonderful decorative accessories, furniture, tabletop and lighting.
Why we love this
My Life in Art by Ludwig Bemelmans. Harper & Bros., 1958. 74 pages. No jacket. The beloved creator of Madeleine tells of his upbringing and early attraction to art. Numerous drawings and illustrations in his familiar style and a color portfolio of 30 of his oils and gouaches that he turned to late in his career. Most of the pages with drawings and text are tanned but clean. Glossy plate pages are foxed at the borders. Offsetting marks from glossy to plain pages in several areas.
