Why we love this
Charlie and The Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. New York: Knopf, 1973. First revised edition. This famous tale, which first appeared in 1964, was originally illustrated by Joseph Schindelman representing the Oompa-Loompas as African pygmies. This version is now seen as demeaning, leading to the factory workers being re-drawn to look more like European wild men, in this edition. Nevertheless, a classic story, and now two movie versions have been made.
