Oil on board painting of a playful kitten by Olga Adamiade. Signed lower right and dated January 1, 1908. Olga Adamiade was the first Romanian female painter that enjoyed success at the turn of the 20th century. Originally from Iasi, she moved to Bucharest at an early age and later she won a scholarship at the Julien School in Paris. Her work was in the realist style often incorporating animal subjects. After a lengthy stay in Paris, she returned to Romania where she opened her own studio.
