Why we love this
A lithograph from 1979 of a woman at a writing desk by American artist George Deem (1932-2008). It is a portrait of a woman depicted as a 17th-century noblewoman, rendered in the style of Vermeer. She sits in contrast to the iconic Gilded Age painting "Whistler's Mother," displayed behind her. Deem is known for his anachronistic combinations of images, combining Old Masters with 19th century art, as seen here. Signed and numbered in pencil, edition size: 300, AP 40. Unframed.
