Batten Road was born in the ‘70s when a crazed book-lover returned from college to work in Soho at one of the country's (world's??) most famous Art & Architecture bookstores. To feed the addiction (and rent), she quickly picked up two other jobs so the love affair with books need not end. Eventually, the addiction grew to hunting for wonderful decorative accessories, furniture, tabletop and lighting.
Why we love this
All Men Are Brothers (Shui Hu Chuan). Translated by Pearl S. Buck. Heritage Press, 1948. First edition. 688 pp. Plain slipcase. Nobel laureate Pearl Buck's translation of the epic Chinese story cycle that dates to the 12th century. The stories concern a vast band of robbers that became heroic, Robin-Hood-like characters in Chinese folklore. 32 colorful full-page illustrations by Mexican artist Miguel Covarrubias. Slight fading on spine, light page tanning, owner's bookplate.
