Since 1994, Pierre and Cathy Négrel have been traveling to France in search of antique furniture and accents for our Austin, Texas store. We select each piece with an eye toward quality and distinctiveness. Négrel Antiques provides a magnificent selection of 18th- and 19th-century buffets, bookcases, and armoires, French farm tables, Carpenter's workbenches, Provençal commodes, Louis Philippe mirrors, Art Deco armchairs, Louis XVI chests and an eclectic mix of lighting.
Why we love this
A pair of Louis XVI style beechwood and rush armchairs, circa 1940s. In typical Provençal style, the armrests are set back on the seat and the backs are open, with simply shaped slats. Curved armrests and scalloped aprons feature relief carved garlands and a large central flower, as well as carved scrolls along the edge. Rosettes grace the die joints, which sit on turned and fluted legs. The rush seats are low, being 14" from the ground and topped with a 2" cushion and are in great condition.
