Batten Road was born in the ‘70s when a crazed book-lover returned from college to work in Soho at one of the country's (world's??) most famous Art & Architecture bookstores. To feed the addiction (and rent), she quickly picked up two other jobs so the love affair with books need not end. Eventually, the addiction grew to hunting for wonderful decorative accessories, furniture, tabletop and lighting.
Why we love this
Virginia Woolf, A Biography by Quentin Bell. Harcourt Brace, 1972. 556 pages with 32 pages of photo illustrations. The author was Woolf's nephew so this, the first full-scale biography of the writer, is imbued with family history and personal remembrance. Bell was an artist, potter, and teacher as well as a writer and a member of the storied Bloomsbury group, as was Woolf herself. Minor jacket wear, light page tanning.
