Located in Midtown East Manhattan, the Phyllis Lucas Gallery/Old Print Center has one of the largest collections of antique prints and fine art in New York City. With a long and storied history, our gallery holds the distinction as the first publisher of Salvador Dali’s lithographs in America and has been among the foremost of the city's dealers in antique works on paper since its founding in 1928.
Why we love this
Pressed sea flower (dasya elegans, an algae), likely from Bay Ridge, Long Island, circa 1884. The piece derives from a collection created by upper-class women, who by social convention were not expected to work; instead, many of them became master artists in the genre of pressed sea flowers in their spare time. Floated in a gold-leaf wood frame with an acid-free beige mat.
