Why we love this
A traditional English tantalus dating from the end of the 19th century and made from an exotic wood, probably lignum vitae and decorated with Sheffield silver applications. It holds three matching cut glass decanters. The purpose of a tantalus was to prevent unauthorized consumption of the spirits in the decanters. This was accomplished with a metal bar which locked the decanters into the wooden frame. This one has its original key and its mechanism is in working order.
