This graphically pleasing book for children evokes the joys of a summer spent on the water. Created by the artist Tom Slaughter, the storyline is filled with simple clues and culminates with giant pages of six kinds of boats and a wonderful harbor scene. Tom Slaughter’s graphics have a happy-go-lucky charm that’s difficult to resist. In addition to having pieces in MoMA and the Whitney Museum of American Art, Slaughter has illustrated more than a half-dozen children’s books, and his limited-edition silkscreen prints for the Obama campaign, bearing the now-famous message "Yes We Can," emerged as one of the most iconic images of the 2008 election. Born in New York City in 1955, Tom Slaughter has worked as a printmaker in collaboration with Durham Press for 20 years.
