Perhaps more than any other piece of home furnishing, a rug establishes the mood and tenor of a room and pulls the other components together. Because it’s such a vital element, an ideal rug has a timeless quality and, regardless of how simple or intricate its design, a versatility that enables it to accommodate changes in your decor.
Originally created in the late 16th century for royalty, the Polonaise rug is a Persian creation which gained popularity through the 1700s. Because so many were seen in Europe throughout the 19th century it was assumed that the Polonaise rug came from Poland, hence the name. The Polonaise, however, is woven with a Persian knot technique and many Polonaise rugs can be attributed to India since the cost of labor to create these grandiose rugs was much less expensive there. This rug has the luxurious feel of silk because of the high-quality, hand-knotted wool.
