Oil painting by Yashushi Tanaka. In 1904 Tanaka moved to Seattle where he became known as an artist and controversial figure after he marryied Gebhard Cann, a well known white poet and playwright. In 1920 they moved to Paris where he exhibited often at the Society Nationale des Beaux-Arts. His work consists of landscapes, still lifes and portraits, but he was most known for his nudes. In 1940, Tanaka moved back to Japan and also exhibited there. He died in 1941.
