    Painted hills in the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument in Oregon by Erle Loran (American, 1905-1999).Erle Loran was a modernist of urban-coast views and geometric painting. Loran, who was fascinated by Cézanne, painted the countryside around Aix en Provence and wrote the book Cézanne's Composition in 1943. Loran's students at UC Berkeley included Richard Diebenkorn and Sam Francis. Signed lower right "Loran." Presented in a white wood frame. Image, 45”W x 51”L.
