Why We Love This

A dramatic seascape with crashing waves along a rocky beach by Marie-Guillaume-Charles Leroux (French, 1814-1895). Signed and dated "Leroux, Paris 1892" lower right. He was a student of Corot and was advised by Rousseau. He painted mostly around Fontainebleau and the Loire. Baudelaire refers to his work at the Salon in 1846 (where he exhibited on a regular basis), admiring his sincere approach to color and nature. The Musée d'Orsay and Musée de Nantes are amongst those who exhibit his works.
