Why We Love This

Antique copperplate engraving with period hand-coloring, circa 1800, from a series of prints called perspective views or vues d’optique, which were developed to be viewed through zograscopes, optical devices invented around 1750. Zograscopes increased the perception of depth in an otherwise "flat" image.
