As described by McNaught Fine Art

A substantial and period figural oil showing a young woman with flowers in her hair gazing from a window. A white dove flies above her, while behind hangs an open birdcage. Signed on verso "Hyacinthe Hill" (American, 1920-1989), a listed artist, and painted circa 1950. Titled on printed label on verso, Uncaged and painted circa 1950. A lyrical and enigmatically feminist statement by this notable midcentury outsider, painter, and poet. Unframed.

About the Seller

McNaught Fine Art

A 1986 graduate of Christie's Fine Arts of London, I headed the fine art department of a West Coast auction house for three years before opening my own gallery in 1989. Every painting I represent is selected with care. I believe fine art to be an integral part of the fully-lived life, illuminating both our vision and our values for our children. As time passes, our paintings become heirlooms, enriched with our shared memories. Many things come and go. Art abides. —Anthony McNaught
