As described by M.S. Rau Antiques

Charming and rare two-piece cut glass mayonnaise set by the Hawkes Company in the outstanding Satin Iris pattern. Life-like depictions of irises exemplify the tremendous level of craftsmanship for which Hawkes was known. Started in 1880 by Thomas G. Hawkes, the Hawkes Company was making glass for the White House by 1886. In 1889, two of their cut glass patterns won the Grand Prize in the Paris Exposition.
