As described by Antonio Martins

Ceremonial woven raffia skirt decorated with appliquéd raffia in geometrical shapes, all of which have names and symbolic meanings. The ceremonial occasions for which Kuba skirts were produced are quite rare nowadays and the textiles are mostly used as burial cloths, with an emphasis on the quality to indicate status.
