Why We Love This

The Demons by Heimito von Doderer. Translated from German by Richard and Clara Winston. NY: Alfred A. Knopf, 1961. 1st Am. Ed. Two volumes, original slipcase. 1,334 pp. Red cloth with illustration, top edges dark blue. The action is squeezed between the autumn of 1926 and the summer of 1927 and the events lead up to the burning of the Ministry of Justice, which Doderer refers to as a “crushing blow for Austrian freedom." Books clean and sound.

About L. Brook Rare Books

I've been a dealer in rare books and art for over 30 years. I spent my early years training and providing animals for films, stage and TV. It was great fun, and evolved into a love for finding rare books and art, with a bias towards things "dog, horse and cat." I look for rarity, condition, and price when deciding which items to offer for sale. Uniqueness and value are what will drive my site—and although my love of animals is obvious, I strive to offer items that are diverse and exciting.
