The Sea Around Us by Rachel L. Carson. New York: Oxford University Press, 1951. First edition, thirteenth printing. 230 pp. Carson's landmark survey of the sea, from its beginnings. Chapters on tides, wind and water, the spinning of the earth and the global thermostat, among others. This seminal classic won the National Book Award and the Burroughs Medal. In very good, clean condition. Endpaper maps, black and white illustrations. Gift inscription dated May, 1951. Lacking dust jacket.
