First Edition thus. 338 pp. With more than 50 black and white and four color illustrations by Frederick Barnard and others. Illustrated endpapers. Includes notes and biblical references. Scarce dust jacket, in very good condition. Considered a classic allegory with a "wholly absorbing narrative." Under dust jacket, lovely blue boards, with paste down, and gilt trim and lettering. Unmarked.
