Why We Love This

Les Vacances by Madame la Comtesse de Segur. Paris: Librairie Hachette, 1897. 317 pages, with numerous black-and-white illustrations by Bertall, the pseudonym of Charles Albert d'Arnoux, one of the most important French illustrators of the 19th century. This tale for the young, with the text in French, is a volume in the prestigious Bibliotheque Rose series, and a classic French children's tale. A fine copy, with the spine faded to pink, as usual, and with all edges gilt.

About Barbara Farnsworth

My bookstore, an old wooden building at the edge of a New England trout stream, houses thousands of used, rare and antiquarian books, with particular emphasis on Home and Garden subjects -- food and drink, gardening, interior design and architecture. I also carry titles on fashion, children's books and literature. Books really do furnish a room, beautifully!
