Anatole France (1844-1924) was a French writer of several best-sellers. Considered "The Ideal Frenchman of Letters," he was a member of the Académie Française and he won the Nobel Prize for Literature. It is also widely believed he was the model for Bergotte in Marcel Proust's In Search of Lost Time.
