Gilt and painted tole bread box that once belonged to Albert Hadley's grandmother. Rectangular with hinged lid and open front. Inscribed "HB Grubbs, Cracker Company, Nashville."

Albert Hadley’s East 85th Street apartment served as his design laboratory for more than 30 years. He instantly transformed it from a standard prewar to a model of modernist perfection. Many of his iconic items are included in this sale: an Italian standing lamp from Van Day Truex; Mark Scharillo’s Sunburst Mirror; and Mr. Hadley’s “ants in your pants” chair with Robert Yoh-designed fabric, a portrait of Elsie de Wolfe on Anne Morgan’s body, and a group of photographs commissioned from Dennis Krukowski of Richard Hambleton’s Shadowmen.
