"A trio of gloriously painted and newly rewired wall sconces that once looked slightly down at the heels until the Madcap Cottage boys had their way with them and now this triumvirate is totally tip-top terrific. We are crazy about the floral flourishes and the clever curlicues that wrap hither and yon like Jack's beanstalk. We think this three-some might have once graced the salon of an antebellum plantation after it was rewired but before the original family had to sell it to a pair of carpetbaggers after they couldn't pay their taxes and had to move to Cleveland where their cousin Ike ran a shoe factory that made wingtips under a private label. Must be hardwired. Each sconce takes two candelabra size bulbs.
John Loecke and Jason Oliver Nixon are the dynamic duo behind Madcap Cottage, their Brooklyn-based interior design firm. Known for their imaginative use of color and pattern, the Madcap gents scour the world for eclectic finds that capture their unique and gimlet-eyed view of the world. Imagine a British country house that pairs Grannys antiques and a spirited dash of chinoiserie chic with a side of Moroccan marvelous and Indian lan. You only live once, say the pair, channeling Mae West, but if you do it right, once is enough.
