Why We Love This

Seascape at Dawn, 1896 oil on panel by French artist Henri Marius Camille Bouvet (1859-1945). Signed and dated on reverse; location identified on reverse as Mesnil-Val (a coastal town in Normandy). Bouvet exhibited regularly at the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts and at the Société des Artistes Français; he became a member as well as member of the jury of both organizations. While adhering to the academic style of his classic training, Bouvet brought the sensibility of Impressionism to his works. Paintings by Bouvet are held in the collection of the Musée du Petit Palais in Paris.

Since opening her gallery in Washington, D.C., almost 20 years ago, Susan Calloway has developed a following that ranges from young couples buying their first “real” work of art to celebrated interior designers like Tom Pheasant and Frank Babb Randolph. Her clients, be they first-timers or seasoned collectors, benefit from her sense of style, refined taste, and unswerving commitment to quality. Susan's L.A. based daughter, Anna Calloway, has recently joined the business, and represents the gallery on the West Coast.
