"Rustic and grand, this 19th-century teak shopkeeper's chest was found in Gujarat, a state in western India. These types of tables/chests had many purposes for a shopkeeper because their storefront also functioned as their home. The shopkeeper would sit on the top usually with a blanket and have on display goods they were selling or service they were of offering. The many deep drawers were used to store merchandise and personal belongings. When the day was over the table became their bed. This is a unique and elegant piece with a great provenance, it even has a secret latch on the top for the shopkeeper to put his valuables." A native of Cody, WY, Russell Johnson found his true calling on a trip to Buenos Aires while visiting one of the most inspiring flea markets he’d ever encountered.
