Rare betel nut box from the 19th century. Hand-hammered with exquisite workmanship. The "betel nut"  refers to the nut from the areca palm wrapped in a betel leaf.  Chewing the mixture is a tradition in India and many parts of Asia which dates back thousands of years and continues to be a popular tradition today.
