The process of weaving hand-knotted pile rugs is extremely difficult, taking some artisans months -- or even a few years to complete the most complex designs. Most Persian carpets use a symmetrical-style knot called the “Turkish knot” for coarser rugs, or an asymmetrical Persian-style knot to achieve a more delicate design and profile. While Persian carpets come in myriad styles that range from rough to refined, the artistry and craftsmanship that goes into each one is endlessly inspiring.
