This lithograph is printed in two colors by the Atelier Mourlot in Paris. It was created in 1959. Henri Matisse was a virtuoso, moving from cut-outs and sculpture to painting. The principal founder of Fauvism, he used expressive color, often giving his works a rich surface design. He was also a masterful draftsman. Educated and trained in Paris, Matisse spent most of his life in the South of France.

This extraordinary group of lithographic posters comes from the collection of Barleycorn Antique Prints. Owned by British-born Philippa Katz, Barleycorn sources antique prints and rare books from across England, France, and Germany. The company is based in Vermont.
