Colonial Arts, James Eddy
Midcentury Mexican lacquer chest from Olinalá painted in elaborate detail with colorful flower baskets, playful animals and equestrian scenes surrounded by swirls of foliate motifs and graphic foliate borders. The overall level of quality and craftsmanship is superlative. Supported by original painted and lacquered base.
After years of travel, stints in architectural design, and a decade of compulsive collecting, James Eddy founded Colonial Arts as a cyber-enterprise in 1998. Housed today in a historic brick and timber building in the San Francisco design center, the gallery focuses on high-quality Spanish Colonial and vintage folk art from Spain, Mexico and the Americas, which is offered alongside continental furniture, tribal art, period silver, textiles, jewelry and a wide assortment of reference materials.
