Why We Love This

Ming-inspired Chinese calligrapher's table with simple stretchers and legs ending in horse hoof feet, from Shanxi Province, China.

When Betsy Nathan lived in Beijing, Chinese art and furniture were her key to learning about Chinese history, culture, language and trade. Her adventures culminated in what is now Pagoda Red, the gallery she opened upon her return to the US in 1997. With in Chicago and Winnetka, the gallery specializes in 19th-century Chinese furniture and decorative arts for the home and garden, and also represents a number of emerging artists.
