Why We Love This

California Coast Trails by J.S. Chase. Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1913. First Edition of this classic work, a beautifully written account of the author's horseback ride from Los Angeles to San Diego, and from there up the coast to Oregon. Realizing that automobiles would soon change the face of the state, Chase determined to make a trip by horseback before such a journey would become impossible. Photographs taken by Chase himself. 326 pages, 15 photo plates.

About Ilon Specht

When Ilon Specht was a creative director in NYC she alleviated the stress by collecting antiques. Constantly. "If it was beautiful, and I had a place for it, I bought it. And, if I didn't have a place for it, I bought it." Over the years, she used her finds to decorate. But, as much as she did, she couldn't decorate as fast as she could hunt and gather. So, in 2000, Hacienda was born, dedicated to the diversity of beauty. Run by Martin Sierra. And filled by Ilon.
