19th-century dome-top steamer trunk with solid pine wide-board construction and wide grooved oak slats. Trunk features fancy cast slat holds, sliding tumbler draw bolts and a brass-plated working hasp lock and key. Center banding is made of deep brown chrome tanned leather and edges are bound by riveted brass sheets. Lid lift is cast steel. Trunk is finished with multiple coats of hand-rubbed tung oil. Cool, collectible, and fantastically versatile, these are trunks with a past--and a glowing future. Each wonderful antique has been meticulously hand-restored and repurposed as a one-of-a-kind work of art by Randall Barbera, who uses premium leather, rare woods, and centuries-old building and refinishing techniques to create the exquisite centerpieces here. "Punctuating the original design, and then taking it one step further to enhance its personality, is the ultimate goal," says Barbera, who spends a full six weeks on each. No two are alike.
