An original transfer lithograph from the artist’s drawing printed in black ink on wove paper with the “Marais” watermark. The subject of this work is a young collaborator of Teriade’s, Angele Lamotte, who died at the age of twenty-eight. Matisse, who was fond of her, dedicated this print to her memory. Annotated and signed on the stone lower right "à la memoire de/Angele Lamotte/ Henri Matisse."
This is a fine impression of the definitive state. As published in the review Verve, vol.Iv, no.13 “De la Couleur”, by Efstratois Teriade, Editions de la revue Verve, Paris, 1945. Catalogue reference: Claude Duehuit, Henri Matisse: Catalogue raisonné des ouvrages illustrés, Paris, 1988.
