Why We Love This

Typical of mid-20th-century Moroccan design, this rug has a diverse landscape. The symmetrical shapes at the middle of the rug represent the borders of land spanning out over the wilds. Outside of these borders are small flowers. The land comes to a jagged end, representing the mysterious waters outside. A horned beast rises from the ocean, looking onto the grassy shores.

About Nazmiyal Collection

Jason Nazmiyal, owner of the Manhattan-based rug company that bears his name, has been buying and selling antique and vintage rugs for three decades. His goal is not merely to find and offer the finest handcrafted rugs—worthy though that goal is—but also to share his knowledge of and passion for the art form. His collection, which ranges from Moroccan runners to Swedish flat-weaves to antique Oushaks, shows that he continues to achieve both ambitions.
