This work is signed at the lower right "Lélia Pissarro," titled and signed again verso. Lélia Pissarro was born in Paris on July 27, 1963, the youngest child of Hugues Claude Pissarro. Her grandfather Paulémile taught her the fundamental Impressionist and Post-Impressionist techniques that had been taught to him by his father and brothers, and so began Lélia's love for figurative art. After Paulémile's death, Hugues Claude, whose style veered towards conceptual art, took over as Lelia's teacher. At fifteen she took part in an exhibition at the Luxembourg Museum in Paris, and a year later enrolled at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Tours. With her parents dividing their time between France and California, Lélia found herself moving between Tours, Paris and San Francisco. During this period she became dissatisfied with conceptual art and reverted to the family's traditional creative roots. While in Paris, Lélia taught art and studied oil painting restoration at the Louvre's laboratory. During this time she had solo exhibitions in Paris, Lyon, Mulhouse and Rennes. Following in the tradition of her great-grandfather, Camille Pissarro, her grandfather, and her father, this fourth-generation artist has been included in a series of museum exhibitions exploring the work of Camille Pissarro and his descendants.

This work is part of a carefully curated selection by noted fine art expert Jennifer McCloskey, who was formerly affiliated with Doyle Gallery in New York and is now based in San Francisco.
